This is a bare-bones policy that pays a maximum of $20,000 for medical expenses to any one individual who is hurt in an accident with your vehicle. It pays a maximum of $40,000 in medical costs to all of the individuals who are hurt in an accident with your vehicle, and it pays a maximum of $10,000 in property damage that is the result of an accident that your vehicle is involved in. Property damage typically refers to the repair of the other person's vehicle, but it can include other types of property as well.
Understand that this insurance pays you absolutely nothing. It pays nothing toward the repair of your vehicle and it pays nothing toward any medical bills for you or for anyone riding in your vehicle.
The reason this type of insurance is considered to be high risk is because the maximum payouts for this insurance is considered fairly small and may not cover all of the medical bills or all of the property damage that can be caused by even a medium-sized accident.
If there are medical bills in excess of the amounts that your basic liability insurance will pay, or if there is property damage in excess of what your basic insurance will pay, YOU could have to pay the difference out of your own purse or pocket.
