The figures released recently showed that almost half as many motorcyclists to life on British roads as motorists and passengers. This is an astounding figure since motorcycles accounted for less than 4% of the vehicles on British roads.

These figures are courtesy of yesinsurance.co.uk, who said that in the past 25 years the number of road accident rates of all other forms of transport have fallen significantly, the risk of driving a motorcycle has its dangerous mortality.

In 2006 6484 motorcycle users were slain or seriously injured, according to the Ministry of Transport, this compared to 14254 car users. Motorcyclists are 51 times more likely to be slain than motorists, this figure is considered per mile made, they are also twice as likely as pedal cyclists, in addition to the most vulnerable group.

Paul Purdy of yesinsurance.co.uk said: "The rising cost of fuel and the exemption of motorcycles from the London congestion charge are two of the factors to encourage motorists to switch on motorcycles.
